When Gage was a freshman at Middlesex, he loved to throw rocks. To know Gage is to understand that the activity was far from remedial. You see, Gage didn’t simply hurl rocks with his arm –he fired them from a large catapult that he designed and built himself.  The catapult was a product of his particular aptitude in math and physics, and soon Gage would launch himself down an academic track that would lead to the mechanical engineering department at Stanford University.
